Jian Gao’s students won prizes at Chinese Bridge Speech Contest - USA & China!



Michael Spence gave his speech at the 1st annual “Chinese Bridge” World High School Student Chinese Contest held in China summer 2008. The team took the 2nd Prize. At the time of the contest, Michael studied Chinese for two years.

Edward Columbia won the 1st Prize at the 7th Chinese Bridge Speech Contest sponsored and hosted by Confucius Institute at U-Mass Boston April 2012. At the time of the contest, Edward was a 4th year Chinese student.

From 2007 – 2012, eight of Jian Gao’s students from Belmont Hill School won 1st or 2nd Prizes at the Chinese Bridge Chinese Speech Contest for US High School Students sponsored and hosted annually by Confucius Institute at U-Mass Boston. In the first ever “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for International High School students held in Ji’Nan China in the of summer 2008, Ms. Gao coached and led a team of three students from Belmont Hill School to compete against 28 teams from 24 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America, altogether 84 contestants. After two rounds, her team, also known as Team USA, was one of the six teams in the final round along with Singapore, Mongolia, North Korea, Canada and Vietnam. In the end, Team USA, the only team consisting of non-Asians in the Final, won the 2nd Prize. The winning team was Singapore.

Kyle Laracey won the 2nd Prize at the 6th Chinese Bridge Chinese Speech Contest May 2011.

Ben Jones won the 2nd Prize at the 6th Chinese Bridge Chinese Speech Contest May 2011.

Matt Hayes won 2nd Prize at the 5th Chinese Bridge Chinese Speech Contest April 2010.

Colby Dunn won 1st Prize at the 3rd Chinese Bridge Chinese Speech Contest April 2008.

Bobby Alexander won 2nd Prize at the 2nd Chinese Bridge Chinese Speech Contest May 2007.

受麻州大学孔子学院的重托,2008年夏天高健老师带着本校的三个学生代表美国前往中国济南参加了首届世界中学生汉语桥演讲比赛。最后,她的这支被大家热称为 "Team USA" 的团队在同来自24个国家86个选手的竞争中脱颖而出,获得了团体总分第二名的好成绩,第一名获奖者是新加坡队。除此之外,一位选手获得个人演讲第二名和唯一的最佳人气奖;还有一位获得个人演讲第三名。值得一提的是,她这三个十五六岁的小男生是六个决赛团队中唯一的非亚裔学生。
